The LSU Tigers recorded a non-conference win on Monday night, easily defeating the College of Charleston Cougars, 71-47, in college basketball action at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La.

The win extended LSU's win streak to six games, and their home win streak to open the year to six games, while also giving them seven wins in their last eight contests.

The Tigers never trailed, jumping out to a 5-0 lead, before Charleston scored their first points, courtesy of a three-pointer, at the 17:05 mark, trimming the LSU lead to 5-3.

LSU then scored seven-unanswered points, and 18 of the next 22 points, to gain a 23-7 advantage with 8:03 remaining in the first half.

The Tigers' wouldn't stop there, outscoring the Cougars, 12-8, the remainder of the half, to take a 35-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.

LSU outshot Charleston in the opening half, 48%-23%, while holding down a 25-13 rebounding advantage.

Jarell Martin led the way for the Tigers in the first half, scoring 9 points and grabbing 5 rebounds, while Donovan Gilmore and Anthony Stitt eached scored 4 for the Cougars.

The Cougars couldn't make any kind of a run in the second half, as the Tigers extended their lead to as many as 28 points, and then cruised to the 25-point win.

LSU ended the game outshooting Charleston from the field, 48%-28%, while finishing with a 43-34 rebounding edge.

Martin led the way for the Tigers, scoring 18 points and pulling down 9 rebounds, with Jordan Mickey adding 15 points and 10 boards.

In a losing cause for the Cougars, Stitt totaled team-high 13 points.

With the victory, LSU improved the 9-2 on the young season, while Charleston slipped to 5-7.

The Tigers return to action on Monday, December 29, when they play host to Southern Miss.
