As each recruiting year goes back, college football teams are offering scholarships to recruits sooner and sooner.

It used to be players didn't get offers until midway through their senior season, or perhaps even later.  Then it was during the summer before their senior year.  And now, it's certainly not unusual for a player to get an offer either before or during his junior season.

But the eighth grade?  Really?

Both LSU and the University of Washington have made scholarship offers to players who are about to enter the eighth grade. In the case of the Tigers, it's Dylan Moses, a 6 foot 205 lb. middle schooler who ran a 4.46-40 yard dash at the LSU football camp in July.

Moses is 14 years old.

How early is too early?  Is this trend disturbing or harmless?  espn.com's Mitch Sherman weighs in here.
