LSU Falls To South Alabama, 79-75, In OT

The LSU Tiger men’s basketball team had their modest two-game win streak snapped on Wednesday evening, as coach Trent Johnson’s squad fell to the South Alabama Jaguars, 79-75, in overtime, in non-conference action, in Baton Rouge.

With LSU leading, 69-67, South Alabama’s Freddie Goldstein hit a 16-foot jumper from the right wing to tie the game at 69 apiece with only one second remaining in regulation, bringing the game into overtime.

The field goal by Goldstein was only his second of the game, and helped erase an 11-point South Alabama deficit over the last 8:04.

The Jaguars outscored the Tigers, 10-6, in an overtime period in which they never trailed, en route to the four-point win.

South Alabama out-shot LSU from the field, 51%-42%, and also out-rebounded the Tigers, 37-27.

Augustine Rubit led the Jaguars in scoring, with 20 points, while Xavier Roberson added 19.

For LSU, in a losing cause, Andre Stringer poured in 20 points, while Ralston Turner chipped in with 13.

With the victory, South Alabama improved to 2-2 on the young season, while the Tigers fell to 3-3.

LSU returns to action on Tuesday, November 29, when they take on the Houston Cougars, in non-conference action.
