LSU Falls To Arkansas, 31-14

The 9th-ranked LSU Tigers fell at home in SEC action on Saturday night, dropping a 31-14 decision to the Arkansas Razorbacks at Tigers Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

Arkansas scored the first 21 points of the game, and never looked back, handing LSU their second-consecutive loss, and their first home defeat of the season.

Arkansas got on the scoreboard first, at the 8:06 mark of the opening quarter, when Brandon Allen hit Dominique Reed with a 52-yard touchdown pass, capping off a 5-play, 67-yard drive, to give them a 7-0 lead.

Alex Collins helped the Razorbacks extend their lead at the 14:42 mark of the second quarter, with a long 80-yard touchdown run, completing a 4-play, 91-yard drive, to make the score 14-0.

Later, Arkansas forced an LSU turnover, and then the offense took advantage two plays later, when Collins scored on his second rushing touchdown of the game, this one from 5 yards away, ending a short 11-yard drive, to make it 21-unanswered points, and a 21-0 Razorback edge.

LSU scored their first touchdown of the game with :24 remaining in the first half, when Brandon Harris connected with Malachi Dupre on a 5-yard touchdown pass, off of a deflection, concluding a 9-play, 91-yard drive, to cut the Arkansas advantage to 21-7, a lead the Razorbacks would take into the locker room at halftime.

The Razorbacks outgained the Tigers, in terms of total yards, in the first half, 255-110, including a 156-minus 3 advantage in rushing yards, while LSU held a 113-99 edge in passing yards.

LSU's rushing output was hurt by the four sacks that Arkansas totaled in the half.

Collins paved the way for Arkansas over the first 30 minutes, rushing for 115 yards, including 2 touchdowns, on 10 carries.

For LSU in the first half, Harris completed 11-of-16 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, while Leonard Fournette was held to 34 yards on 10 carries.

The Tigers scored on the initial possession of the second half, when Fournette scored on a 2-yard run, his 17th rushing touchdown of the season, capping off an 8-play, 67-yard drive, to cut the deficit to 21-14 at the 11:10 mark of the third quarter.

The Razorbacks answered right back with points of their own, when Cole Hedlund booted through a 25-yard field goal, completing a 10-play, 48-yard drive, to extend their lead to 24-14 at the 5:33 mark of the third frame, a lead they would take with them into the final period.

Arkansas put the game away at the 10:18 mark of the fourth quarter, when Allen hit Jared Cornelius with a 52-yard touchdown pass, ending a 5-play, 67-yard drive, to extend their lead to 31-14.

LSU had a final scoring opportunity at the 3:26 mark the fourth quarter, moving the football to the Arkansas 11-yard line, but D.J. Dean intercepted an errant pass by Harris, securing the 17-point Razorback win, their second-straight victory over the Tigers.

Arkansas ended the game outgaining LSU, in terms of total yards, 440-330, including a 299-59 advantage on the ground, while the Tigers finished with a 271-141 edge in passing yards.

Collins led the way for the Razorbacks, rushing 16 times for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Allen completed 9-of-16 passes for 141 yards, along with a touchdown and an interception.

In a losing cause for the Tigers, Harris completed 21-of-35 passes for 271 yards, to go along with one touchdown and one interception, while Fournette finished with 91 rushing yards, including a touchdown, on 19 carries.

With the victory, Arkansas improved to 6-4, overall, and 4-2 in SEC play, while LSU fell to 7-2, and 4-2, respectively.

The Tigers return t action next Saturday, when they travel to Oxford, Mississippi to take on the Ole Miss Rebels.
