The seventh-ranked LSU Tigers defeated the Purdue Boilermakers, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, completing a three-game, weekend, non-conference sweep.

LSU was led at the plate by outfielder Mark Laird, who went 3-for-3, with two runs scored, while shortstop Alex Bregman, designated hitter Kade Scivicque, and catcher Chris Chinea collected two hits apiece, as the Tigers out-hit Purdue, 12-7.

Alden Cartwright (1-0), who pitched a perfect 1.2 innings, picked-up the win in relief for LSU, while Parker Bugg recorded his second save.

Connor Podkul (0-2) suffered the loss for the Boilermakers, allowing five hits and three runs over three innings of work.

With the victory, LSU improved to 14-2 on the season, while Purdue dropped to 1-10.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday evening, when they host Nicholls St. in non-conference play.
