LSU Baseball Wins Regional Opener Over Southeastern Louisiana, 8-4
The seventh-ranked LSU Tigers won their first game in the Baton Rouge, La. Regional on Friday afternoon, defeating the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, 8-4, at Alex Box Stadium.
LSU, the top-seed in the regional, and the #8-overall national seed, rallied from a 4-2 deficit with two runs in the seventh inning, and four in the eighth, to capture their ninth-consecutive win.
Trailing 4-2 going to the bottom half of the seventh, LSU shortstopwas hit by a pitch, before designated hitter walked with one out. Catcher then singled, driving home Bregman, before singled to left field, scoring McMullen, and knotting the game at 4-4.
The Tigers then plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, whensingled, went to third on a single of the game put runners on the corners, and a scored on an errant pick-off attempt, to give them a 5-4 advantage.
After Laird scored on a Bregman grounded out,belted a two-run homer, to make it 8-4, a lead which held up, as the Tigers went on to the four-run win.
Nate Fury (3-1) picked up the win for the Tigers out of the bullpen, while Dylan Hills (6-4) suffered the loss for the Lions.
With the victory, LSU improved to 45-14-1, while Southeastern Louisiana fell to 37-24.
