At the end of last season, many suggested LSU would be the preseason #1 college football team in the nation.

Turns out, they were right.

LSU and Alabama, the two teams who finished number one and two in the BCS standings at the end of the regular season, hold the same spots as the 2012 season draws near.

Southern California, who was ineligible last year, is ranked third.

The vote was close.  Alabama got 20 first place votes, USC had 19 and LSU 18.

Three other SEC teams, Georgia (6), South Carolina (9) and Arkansas (10) were also ranked in the preseason top 10.

Two Ragin' Cajuns opponents for 2012, Oklahoma State (19)  and Florida (23) were also in the preseason poll.

Louisiana Tech got ten votes in the poll.  Florida International got three.

It's the first time LSU has been ranked #1 in the preseason since 1959.  To see where the Tigers have started the season in recent years, click here.
