It took Louisiana five innings into the second day of the second weekend of the college baseball season, but the offense finally came through in a big way. The Cajuns picked up a three-run inning, hit a home run, and recorded double-digits hits for the first time in 2017. That offensive outburst was more than enough for the Cajuns to capture a top 25 road series win, as Louisiana defeated Sam Houston State 6-1 Saturday afternoon.

The six runs were more than enough for Louisiana starter Nick Lee. The Sophomore righty pitched seven lights out innings in route to picking up his second win the season. Lee scattered five hits while giving up just one run, and striking out eight Bearkat batters. Wyatt Marks threw two scoreless innings and struck out four to secure the series win for the Cajuns.

The offensive outburst was led by outfielder Todd Lott. The freshman was four for five at the dish, driving home three runs including a monstrous solo home run to left field in the eighth inning. Alex Pinero, Brenn Conrad, and Izzy Edwards each had two hits Saturday afternoon. As a team, Louisiana collected 13 hits.

Louisiana's output was a sight for sore eyes as the Cajun offense has struggled to produce many runs early on in the season. Although early Saturday, it looked as if runs may be hard to come by. Louisiana loaded the bases in the first inning with nobody out and put runners on the corners with just one out in the third but came away empty-handed.

Alex Pinero scored the first Cajun run of the afternoon in the fourth inning. Pinero led off with a double and came home after Sam Houston starter Seth Ballew uncorked a wild pitch. Louisiana added three more runs in the fifth.

The Cajuns added three more runs in the fifth. Izzy Edwards and Joe Robbins used free passes from Ballew to set the table with one out in the inning. After a pitching change, Pinero singled and an error then allowed Edwards score. Lott then knocked in both Robbins and Pinero when singled back up the box off of Sam Houston reliever Jordan Cannon. Tony Robichaux's club then added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning.

Louisiana will go for the series sweep Sunday at 1 pm. Evan Guillory is expected to get the start for the Cajuns.
