The first day of the Major League Baseball Draft didn't have a lot of excitement as far as locals were concerned.  But a Louisiana native and an LSU signee were both selected.

South Alabama outfielder Travis Swaggerty, who prepped at Denham Springs HS, was selected with the #10 overall pick in the draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The pick was no surprise as nearly all projections had the Jaguar as a top 15 prospect.

And, Brice Turang, a highly coveted shortstop from Corona, CA and a signee with LSU, will have a decision to make after being taken with the 21st overall pick by Milwaukee.  Coach Paul Mainieri was hopeful Turang would make it to campus, but that is now up in the air.

LSU's Zach Wilson and Louisiana's Hogan Harris are expected to hear their names called fairly early tomorrow when the draft moves to rounds 3-10.  Rounds 11-40 will be on Wednesday.

As expected, Casey Mize of Auburn was selected #1 overall.
