"Golf is a good walk spoiled", so says one of my heroes Mark Twain.

Golf is the ultimate enticement. Just when you've shanked your last six shots and are preparing to deposit your clubs in a water hazard you hit "the shot". It could be that 700-yard drive right down the middle of the fairway or the chip shot that circles the cup and drops in. It doesn't matter it's athletic equivalent of crack that keeps you on the course and coming back for another round.

Louisiana Tourism officials led by Billy Nungesser, our Lt. Governor, believe that golf is an undersold commodity in our state. We have one of the best golf trails in the nation with the Audubon Golf Trail. We have some of the mildest winter weather in the country. We have a lot of other things to see and do once you've finished your round.

Nungesser and his crew Louisiana loving Pied Pipers are playing the song of Louisiana golf throughout the country and even into Canada. The idea is to get golfers who might normally travel to Arizona or the Desert Southwest for cold weather golfing to change their mind and play Louisiana.

Nungesser is also touting these golf adventures as a great bargaining chip to lure retirees to our state. The Retire in Louisiana program is designed to point out the many reasons why spending your "golden years" along the bayous of Louisiana could be the best value in the country.

I think Billy and the boys and girls at Louisiana Tourism are on to a great idea. Our state has world-class facilities, the best food, the most friendly people, and we don't have hills. Trust me, as someone who is growing older not having to challenge gravity is a simple blessing I count every day.
