Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun catcher Lexie Elkins is poised to finish atop the Sun Belt Conference softball statistics in both home runs and runs batted in, with the only outside chance to catch her coming from inside her own dugout.

With one week remaining in the 2014 regular season, plus the postseason Sun Belt Conference tournament, as well as regional action, Elkins leads the league, with 16 home runs, and 59 runs batted in.

Elkins, a sophomore from Victoria, Texas, has also hit a .379, which ranks fourth in the conference.

With 16 home runs, Elkins is three ahead of teammate Haley Hayden, who has 13 bombs on the season, and five ahead of Georgia St. shortstop Taylor Anderson, who has 11.

Hayden, the freshman from West Monroe, seems to be the only player with any kind of a realistic shot at overtaking Elkins.

In the RBI department, the 59 Elkins has is ten more than Hayden, who has 49, as part of a terrific freshman campaign, and 12 more than Georgia St. first baseman Lauren Coleman, who has 47.

The .772 slugging percentage that Elkins has also leads the league.

The Cajuns host the ULM Warhawks in a three-game, weekend, Sun Belt Conference series at Lamson Park this weekend to close out their regular season schedule.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 o’clock, and then a single game on Sunday at 1 pm.
