Leonard Fournette Earns Prestigious Corbett Award For 2nd Time

LSU junior running back Leonard Fournette enters the third season of what’s already been an outstanding collegiate career.

Fournette has been lauded with awards, including the James J. Corbett Award. He’s now a two-time recipient.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl announced Fournette as this year’s male recipient this morning.

It’s awarded annually to the most outstanding amateur male and female athletes in the State of Louisiana.

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball catcher Lexie Elkins was announced as the female winner yesterday. It was the second consecutive year Elkins took home the honor.

“I'm extremely humbled and proud to be named the recipient of this award," Fournette said in a press release from LSU's sports information department. "There are so many great athletes in the state of Louisiana and to be named the Corbett Award winner this year is a tribute to the great teammates that I'm surrounded by and our outstanding coaching staff."

Two years ago, Fournette became the first high school athlete to win the renowned award after an illustrious high school career at St. Augustine, including a prominent senior season before beginning his time with the Tigers. That year, the female recipient was Louisiana Ragin' Cajun pitcher Christina Hamilton.
