It comes as no surprise, but Louisiana head baseball coach Tony Robichaux announced today junior left hander Gunner Leger as his opening night starter Friday vs. Southeastern Louisiana in the opening round of the Tangi Tourism Baseball Classic in Hammond, LA.

Leger, a pre-season All-Conference pick, was 7-3 with a 2.26 ERA a season ago.  He will be opposed by RHP Mac Sceroler, a pre-season All-Southland selection, was 10-4 with a 2.25 ERA for the Lions in 2016, including a victory over Louisiana.

Robichaux also announced Nick Lee (7-1, 3.31) will get the Saturday start against Murray State.  He will be opposed by Racers' right hander Ryan Dills (5-3, 5.20).

The Cajuns have not announced their starter for Sunday against Hofstra, but Robichaux said that decision will come late tomorrow.  Junior college left hander Colten Schmidt has been bothered by a pectoral muscle and the Cajuns' coach said if Schmidt is not available, either junior right hander Evan Guillory or sophomore lefty Hogan Harris would get the call.

"We're going to throw a lot of arms anyway this weekend," Robichaux said. "All of our guys will be on pitch counts.  This is the most critical time of the year for pitchers as they ramp up their arms so you can expect to see a lot of guys."

The Pride will start left hander Teddy Cillis, who was 3-2 with a 5.59 ERA a season ago.

Game times are 6:00pm Friday, 1:00 pm Saturday and 5:00 pm Sunday.  All three games will be heard on KPEL-FM 96.5.
