Freshman lefty Gunner Leger allowed just five hits and didn't allow a walk over seven innings Friday night and his offense supported the effort with eleven hits as Louisiana blanked UT Arlington 5-0 before a crowd of 3,852 at M. L "Tigue" Moore Field.

Leger (5-2) struck out six in his 99 pitch effort before giving way to Will Bacon, who blanked the Mavericks over the final two innings.

Chad Nack (3-4) pitched a complete game for UTA, walking two and striking out four in his eight innings of work.

Louisiana (26-15, 11-7 Sun Belt( got to Nack in the first inning when Blake Trahan singled up the middle and scored on a double by Kyle Clement.  Stefan Trosclair's grounder moved Clement to third  and Tyler Girouard delivered an RBI single to give the Cajuns a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Trahan singled again and Clement hammered a pitch over the right field wall for his fifth homer of the season, increasing the Louisiana lead to 4-0.  Trosclair doubled in the fifth and scored on Nick Thurman's single to end the scoring

UTA (17-23, 8-11) got a pair of hits off Leger in the second but the lefty got Darien McLemore swinging to end the inning.  He then retired the next eleven hitters before back to back singles by Travis Sibley and Levi Scott put runners on first and second.  Again, Leger recorded a strikeout, this time against Cody Farrell to get out of the inning.  Eric Tate's one out double in the seventh was the only other hit given up by Leger.

Trahan had three hits to lead the Cajuns, while Clement, Trosclair, Girouard and Thurman tallied two hits apiece.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 6:05 pm.
