The Teurlings Catholic Rebels ended the 2013 season the same way they opened the season - with a double-digit loss to eventual state runner-up University Lab in the Division II quarterfinals. But in between those two losses, the Rebels had a fantastic season, a season which saw them finish in a three-way tie for first place in one of the toughest districts in the state - District 5-4A.

Teurlings heads into the 2014 season looking to continue and even further their success as they bring back five players on offense and return seven starters on defense. By the way, the Rebels will get a chance at revenge against U-High, as they will host them in their first game of the new season.

One big hole that will have to be filled is at quarterback after multi-year starter Brye Latiolais graduated last season. Junior Cole Kelly will be called on to fill Latiolais' shoes, but Kelly has big shoes of his own.

"He's 6'7;" he's a big boy...240 lbs," says Teurlings Head Coach Sonny Charpentier, who was a guest on Big Time Sports with Mike "Bandit" Bernard and Gerry "Doodie" Hebert. "He's a big kid that can see a lot of things down the field and we're going to try to use his talents to move the football."

Kelly, who Coach Charpentier says will "be the straw that stirs the drink," will have Sage Leblanc at his disposal, a player who draws favorable comparisons to Wes Welker of the Denver Broncos. Teurlings will also have to replace the multi-talented Zack Lafleur, a running back who was a dual threat out of the backfield. Coach Charpentier says they'll basically replace Lafleur with a number of players.

On defense, the Rebels return seven starters, including their captain Asa Miller, a two-year starter who can play multiple positions.

Coach Charpentier talked about how proud he is of all his sons, including new Opelouas Catholic Head Coach Dane Charpentier and Vermilion Catholic Offensive Coordinator Roch Charpentier. Roch got a state championship ring last season for his role in bringing a Division IV championship to VC and Dane was able to win the coveted Crying Towel Award, which is given annually to coaches at the Kiwanis Club Jamboree for their ability to entertain a crowd of their peers while often telling jokes about their team.

"He got his sense of humor from his mother," joked Coach Charpentier.
