LB Tanner Holmes, DE Mustafa Mitchell Transferring From UL

Sophomore linebacker Tanner Holmes and senior defensive end Mustafa Mitchell are transferring from the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun team. Senior defensive back D.J. Miller will forego his final season of eligibility.

Louisiana's football program gave the following statement regarding each player.

“Tanner Holmes and Mustafa Mitchell plan to transfer from the Louisiana Football program, and our staff is working to assist them in continuing their academic and athletic careers at other institutions. D.J. Miller has chosen to forego his senior season of eligibility and focus on his academic endeavors. We appreciate their contributions as Ragin’ Cajuns and wish them the best of luck in the future."

Holmes (pictured above) began his career at Louisiana in 2016, playing early in the season before missing the remainder of the year due to an injury.

As a redshirt freshmen last year, he started a weakside linebacker in the opening game against Southeastern before suffering an injury, then saw limited action a week later against Tulsa.

A few days after that, he announced on social media he would be transferring.

However, Holmes didn't transfer, remained on scholarship, and was back on Louisiana's roster in January shortly after new head coach Billy Napier took over.

A 6'1, 225 LB from Newton, Texas, Holmes accumulated 7 tackles in 3 official games for Louisiana.

Mitchell, a 6'2, 225 lb DE was a JUCO transfer last year for Louisiana from Lackawanna College. The New Jersey native appeared in 9 games last season as a reserve, finishing the year with 3 tackles, playing mostly on special teams.

Miller, who also was a JUCO transfer last year, came to the Cajuns from Navarro College, appearing in 10 games as a backup in the secondary, finishing the year with 4 tackles and a fumble recovery.
