The late Senator John McCain was a big sports fan of Arizona teams.

And, that will be evident at his memorial service Thursday.

Arizona Cardinals' wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is one of three Arizona sports figures who have been asked to participate in the Senator's tribute by McCain's widow, Cindy McCain.

Fitzgerald was honored by the request.

"It's truly one of the greatest honors of my life to be able to talk about somebody who served his country so passionately and had been so dedicated to policies of this nation," Fitzgerald said. "So, I was really taken aback by it."

Former Diamondbacks' start Luis Gonzales and former Coyote's forward Shane Doan will also honor McCain by serving as pallbearers.

All three were friends of the Senator, who died Saturday at age 81.
