For the first time in her career, Shellie Landry was named the Sun Belt Conference Student Athlete of the Week. About time, guys.

One of the senior heartbeats of the Ragin' Cajuns broke out in a big way against Troy for six hits in ten at bats. Three of those six hits went over the wall, and her seventeen total bases helped the Cajuns and Associate Head Coach Chris Malveaux pick up three more wins in Sun Belt play.

"Shellie Landry had a huge weekend," Malveaux said in his press conference. "It started with her first at bat."

Her Head Coach, Micael Lotief, echoed the sentiment about his veteran who set the tone.

"She has the mindset and physical capabilities to take over a series – or a game – and that’s exactly what she did this past weekend," Lotief said. “She was locked in and took the series over, first with her leadership, and then with what she did at the plate.”

Approximately halfway through the season, Landry is on pace for 14 HR's and 58 RBI's. Further than that, if she keeps playing like this alongside her sisters on the squad, they could be playing in Oklahoma City.

To put things in perspective, Landry is hitting .345...and she's still only seventh on the team in hitting. It's a good year to be a Cajun, and it could get even better if the bats don't slow down.
