For the second straight game, the New Orleans Hornets had only 8 healthy players in uniform. It was almost enough Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, but the Lakers managed to squeak by the scrappy Hornets 88-85.

The fleur-de-bees defense was as solid as their effort. In fact, Kobe Bryant shot a paltry 3-21 from the field, missing his first 15 attempts. It was the first time in his career he accomplished the dubious feat. However, he knocked down a go-ahead 3 pointer with 20 seconds left to help steal the victory from New Orleans.

Jason Smith finished with a double-double for the Hornets, scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 boards. Jarrett Jack had a double-double as well. He led New Orleans in scoring with 18, while dishing out 10 assists.

The Hornets will finish up their 4 game road trip tomorrow in Phoenix. Tip-off versus the Suns is set for 8:00.
