Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier is on a hot streak, and he's trying to make Lafayette proud at UFC 195 to start off the new year.

The last two fights on his record are first round knockouts, and they both earned him Performance of the Night. Poirier is trying to make it three straight against Joe Duffy on January 2nd in Las Vegas. It's at the MGM Grand too, where "The Diamond" fought early on in his young career to earn his place in the fighting world. It's not exactly a homecoming for the Louisiana native, but Vegas sure makes for a fine place to celebrate.

His opponent, Duffy, is 14-1 and coming off two first round finishes himself. It won't exactly be like going against your drunk uncle Lou.

Side note, Duffy's from Ireland, and the last man to drop Poirier was none other than "The Notorious" Conor McGregor himself, another proud Irish fighter. McGregor did nothing aside from wreck shop through the featherweight division on his way to a historic knockout of Jose Aldo for the title. Duffy was set to welcome Poirier onto his own turf in Dublin earlier this year, but the fight never happened. Now it's on American soil, and it's sure to deliver early action.

Both fighters love to apply pressure early, so there will be no dancing in this fight.

Poirier is also back to the lightweight division, which doesn't require him to cut as much weight. He said he's more comfortable and more mature, and at #12 in the division, it might be time for him to start climbing the rankings.

If things go like "The Diamond's" last two fights against Yancy Medeiros and Diego Ferreira, Duffy will be on his back by the end of the first round.

Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier isn't the only man in the UFC making Acadiana proud. Poirier is still young, and you never want to let a Louisiana boy back into a fight.
