The Weber St. Wildcats, a member of the Big Sky Conference, are one of four teams that will be vying for the championship in the Lafayette, La. NCAA Softball Regional at Lamson Park this weekend.

Weber St., who will come into the regional with an RPI ranking of 84, is 38-17 on the year, and riding an 8-game win streak.

The Wildcats finished in third place in the Big Sky this season, with a 13-6 record, one game behind second-place Sacramento St., and two-and-a-half games behind first-place Idaho St.

Champions of the Big Sky Tournament, Weber St. is hitting a .324 as a team, along with 39 home runs, 309 runs batted in, and 59 stolen bases in 70 attempts.

Offensively, the Wildcats are versatile, and can beat the opposition in numerous ways. They’ve scored 349 runs on the season, 52 fewer than Louisiana, but the second most in the regional.

Junior shortstop Aubrey Whitmer  is a solid three-hole hitter, leading Weber St. in hitting with a .417 batting average, along with 4 home runs, and 37 runs batted in.

The Wildcats also have a little power, in junior third baseman Alyson Kulp, who leads the squad with 9 homers and 68 RBI’s, and freshman catcher Molly Horne, who along with Kulp has driven in the most runs on the team, with 49.

Pitching-wise, Weber St. brings in an overall combined earned run average of 3.17 into the regional.

Senior right-hander MaCauley Flint is the ace, sporting a 14-7 record, with a 2.42 ERA.

Freshman right-hander Kirtlyn Bohling is second on the staff in terms in wins and ERA., at 9 and 2.86, respectively.

Weber St. finished second in the Big Sky Conference in hitting (.324), first in pitching (3.17), and fifth in fielding (.957) in 2015

Weber St. will be making their first regional appearance, one of seven teams in this year's field of 64 to be doing so.

The Wildcats will also be playing their first game against Louisiana.

The winner of the Louisiana/Weber St. game will face the winner of the match-up between Baylor/Mississippi St. on Saturday at 3:30 pm, while the two losers will meet in an elimination game on Saturday at 6 o'clock.

The Wildcats have their work cut out for them this weekend, traveling a long way, to take on a tough field, in their first-ever regional. But they are a hot team, with quality talent. So, while them winning the regional seems unlikely, it's possible they could play the role of spoiler, and pull off an upset.
