A day after winning the Cy Young Award, Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers has added Most Valuable Player to his award list.

Kershaw became the first National League pitcher to win both the Cy Young and MVP Awards in the same year since Bob Gibson did it with the St. Louis Cardinals back in 1968.

Kershaw collected 18 of the 30 first place votes to outdistance Miami's Giancarlo Stanton got eight first place votes and Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutcheon, the 2013 MVP, collected four.

Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajun Jonathan Lucroy, who was the starter behind the plate for the Naitonal League in the All-Star game, finished fourth in the balloting.  Lucroy batted .301 with 13 homers and 69 RBI.  His 53 doubles were a major league record for his position.

Meanwhile, Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim became the youngest player to win the Most Valuable Player Award unanimously as he was named the winner in the American League.

Trout batted .287 with 36 homers and 117 RBI.
