Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team has added a new assistant coach to the staff who will also serve as the recruiting coordinator.

Katherine Katz joins coach Garry Brodhead's staff, pending final approval from the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.

Katz, a New Orleans native who graduated from Isidore Newman High, was a softball player at Birmingham-Southern and served as volunteer student assistant coach for the women's basketball team.

Upon college graduation in 2006, she became a graduate assistant coach at LSU while earning a masters in kinesiology.

Following her time with the Tigers basketball program, she joined the Samford women's basketball coaching staff as an assistant for five seasons, before serving as an assistant coach last year at Appalachian State.

“Coach Katz brings a world of experience and knowledge of basketball from her previous coaching positions,” Cajuns head coach Garry Brodhead said in a University press release. “Coaching alongside (Samford head coach) Mike Morris, she has great experience of running a modified Princeton offense that really fits the women’s game. But what I’m most excited for is her passion for the game and her drive to be the best.

"As a native of New Orleans, Kat has great contacts throughout the state of Louisiana and the region. She will be in charge of our recruiting as well as coaching our hybrids.”

Louisiana is coming off a 23 win season and WBI championship.
