The Kansas City Royals selected St. Thomas More catcher Chase Vallot with the 40th pick of the first round supplemental draft on Thursday night, on the first night of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder, who signed a national letter of intent to play college baseball at Mississippi St., hit a .545 (54-for-99) in his senior season at STM, with 13 home runs, and 60 runs batted in, while leading the Cougars to the Class 4A state championship.

For his exploits, Vallot was named the district MVP, as well as the Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year.

The Royals' allotment for the 40th slot is $1,420,800.
