Jerry Sandusky Accused of Child Abuse, Penn State Allegedly Covered It Up [VIDEO]

Jerry Sandusky child abuse
ABC News

Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was charged with sexually assaulting eight boys over 15 years. Equally troubling is an allegation that the school reportedly knew about it while it was happening and decided to cover it up rather than report it.

Sandusky, who retired from the team in 1999 to run his foundation, The Second Mile, to help at-risk kids, stayed in close contact with the school and occasionally used their facilities. Witnesses have testified that they saw Sandusky and underage boys in the showers together.

The former athletic director and the vice president for finance and business reportedly knew about the abuse and failed to report it, which is a violation of state law. Head football coach Joe Paterno, however, was not charged.

Outside of the criminal charges, this scandal will rock the school’s football program, many are saying, and could result in Paterno and several others losing their jobs. After all, had the school intervened when officials first heard the stories, who knows how many kids could have been saved from abuse?
