The 7th ranked Ragin' Cajun softball team couldn't complete a sweep of #24 South Alabama, falling to their conference rival on Sunday 8-5.

Louisiana had several opportunities to complete the sweep, but couldn't take advantage.

It began in the first inning when the Cajuns first three batters reached base, but the team could only bring one across home plate.

South Alabama then scored their first run in the bottom of the first, but it was unearned after a Cajun error.

The Jags took the lead one inning later as Stephanie Pilkington earned an RBI single.

Louisiana bounced back in the third with back to back solo homers by Shellie Landry and Lexie Elkins, but the Jaguars came right back in the bottom of the third, scoring a run without a hit.

Two hit batters, one past ball, and a sacrifice fly brought in the game-leading run for USA.

South Alabama added a three run homer in the 5th after the Cajuns walked the first two batters, then added another solo HR in the 6th.

Trailing 8-3, the Cajuns had a chance to close the gap in the 7th as they scored an early run before Shellie Landry came to the plate with two on base. Landry nailed the pitch, but the Jaguar 3B made a great play to double-off the baserunner, retiring two Cajuns in 4 seconds.

Louisiana added another run on a Samantha Walsh RBI, and had the game-tying run at the plate in Aleah Craighton before she grounded out to end the game.

Louisiana falls to 17-3 with the loss, while South Alabama improves to 16-5.

Next up, the Cajuns travel up state to Natchitoches for a Wednesday night non-conference matchup with Northwestern State. First pitch is set for 6:00, with pregame beginning at 5:45. Catch the radio call on ESPN1420 and espn1420.com.
