Talk about getting off on the wrong foot!

The new owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars has a huge PR problem, and it's all his fault.

Shahid Khan is in serious damage control mode after his recent statement about what he believes makes a fan of his team.

Khan explained just what it takes to be a Jaguars fan, in his opinion:

"For me a fan is somebody who is a season ticket holder for the Jaguars", said Khan.  "So that is a key definition we need to get out."

"We want to hear from people, we want a huge amount of constructive feedback. We need input, but we need that from fans who are season ticket holders."

Really?...Really!?...REALLY!?!?!?!?!?!?

So, if you can't afford season tickets, or if you work on Sundays, thereby making your season tickets almost useless, or if you just prefer to support them in other ways, you aren't a fan, Mr. Khan!?

Personally, I think that's a ludicrous statement, and so do a lot of Jaguar fans, who were more than upset.

As I mentioned, Khan and the Jaguars are now in full damage control mode, as a Jaguars' representative said that Khan was joking, and that it was an off-the-cuff comment.

The representative read an e-mail from Khan:

"All it takes to be a Jaguars fan is to love the Jaguars.  And if you love the Jaguars, you're the most important person to me and the entire organization."

Okay, let me give Khan the benefit of the doubt, and assume he was joking (which I highly doubt he was).

Still, a poor decision by delivering a brutal joke.

You're off to a roaring start there in Jacksonville, Mr. Khan. First, you hire Mike Mularkey as your new head coach, and now this.

For the record, I have nothing against Mularkey, but the hiring didn't exactly excite a lot of Jaguar fans.
