Former LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles was back in the news yesterday after it was revealed that he was on a plane heading to Minneapolis-St.Paul Minnesota. The speculation was that Miles was heading to the frozen tundra to discuss a head coaching position that came open at the University of Minnesota.

Many sports pundits believe that Miles would be a very good fit for the Golden Gophers and would also bring some star power to the program. After all, he did have an impressive run with LSU. Miles was 114-34 at LSU when he was fired in September after the Tigers started the 2016 season 2-2. He also won a national championship in 2007 and earned SEC titles in 2007 and 2011.

The opening at Minnesota became a reality on Tuesday when embattled coach Tracy Claeys was relieved of his duties at the university. Miles name was instantly in the mix for possible candidates along with Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck.

There had also been speculation that Miles would not return to the coaching ranks this season. Some rumors had circulated that he would become an analyst for a television network.

As of early Friday morning, there had been no announcement from Miles nor the University of Minnesota regarding the head coaching job.
