The Louisiana IceGators fell victim to the hot stick of Jim Gehring Friday night, as his four-point effort carried the Augusta RiverHawks to their second consecutive win over the Gators by the score of 4-1.
The Gators lone goal came at 9:54 of the second period. Rob Short scored his third goal of the season on a powerplay. He was assisted by Shawn Murray and Alex Morton. The rest of the match belonged to the RiverHawks. Gehring scored his and the Hawks’ first goal of the night at 12:09 in the first period. Three-and-a-half minutes into the second, Gehring assisted Ed Snetsinger with his first goal of the year to make the score 2-0. Gehring scored the game’s last two goals midway through the second period, giving himself a hat-trick in the process. David Simoes, Phil Crea and an injured Jay Hill did not play for the IceGators during the game. The Gators would lose Rob Short late in the contest to a severe facial injury after he took a skate blade to the face.

IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski said after the game that he was proud of his team for playing without three of their men. “They showed a lot of character and heart,” said Kaminski. “They scratched, clawed, and fought right to the end. They showed a lot of passion tonight and went to war for each other. It was great to see.”

The IceGators now travel to Huntsville, Alabama, to take on the Havoc in the final game of the three-game weekend road trip. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 P.M.
