How have cornerbacks drafted in the first round fared for the New Orleans Saints in their rookie seasons?

The question is being posed, due to the fact that the Saints chose former Ohio St. cornerback Marshon Lattimore with the 11th-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Lattimore became only the third cornerback that was ever selected by the franchise in the opening round.

In 1996, the Saints selected a cornerback in the first round for the very first time, when they took Alex Molden of Oregon with the 11th-overall pick.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Molden played five years for the Saints, from 1996-2000.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Molden played in all 14 games as a rookie, starting 2, before becoming the full-time starter in 1997.

Overall in his 1996 rookie season, Molden only started two games, while accumulating 17 tackles, including 2 sacks, to go along with two interceptions.

The only other cornerback that the Saints took in the first round, prior to Lattimore, was Patrick Robinson of Florida St., with the 32nd-overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.

A native of Miami, Florida, Robinson, who was the 32nd-overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, played five years for the Saints, from 2010-2014.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Robinson played in 11 games at cornerback as a rookie in 2010, including 4 as a starter, while compiling 26 tackles.

Comparing Lattimore to only two others certainly isn't a large sample size, but if Lattimore becomes the player, and contributes in his rookie season the way most think tat he will, he could easily become the most productive Saints rookie cornerback that was drafted in the first round.
