On Wednesday the Houston Astros made a little splash at Major League Baseball's Winter Meetings by adding much needed help in the bullpen. They've signed veteran free-agent reliever Joe Smith.

Joe Smith last played with the Cleveland Indians to finish last season after a mid-season trade returning to the tribe from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Astros have signed Smith to a two year contract where he'll make $7 million in 2018 and $8 million in 2019.

Joe Smith has had a very solid 11 year career in which his career ERA stands at a very respectable 2.97 and his WHIP is just over one at 1.18.

Smith will be a dangerous weapon for Manager A.J. Hinch next season as he's durable, keeps the ball in the ballpark, and provides deception with his side-arm delivery.

I'd look for him to be a major key out of the Astros 2018 bullpen.
