Austin Todd's two out, two run double in the top of the tenth inning was the game winner Friday night as Texas defeated Louisiana 3-1 in the 2019 season opener at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park before a sold out crowd of 5,591.

Bryce Reagan got a one out single off lefty Austin Perrin (0-1) and Duke Ellis walked.  Right hander Austin Bradford then came in and got Eric Kennedy to fly out to left.  But Todd then delivered his game winner in the left-center field gap on a 1-1 pitch to score both runs.

Texas got on the board fiirst off Perrin in the seventh inning when A. J. Petrinsky singled with one out.  After Perrin got Mason Hibbeler on strikes, Ryan Reynolds singled and Michael McCann hit a ground rule double to score the game's first run.

Texas starter Bryce Elder breezed through his outing, allowing just three hits over eight innings.  He exited the game when Brennan Breaux led off the night with his second hit of the game.  Reliever Kamron Fields came in and gave up a single to Daniel Lahare.  Fields struck out Gavin Bourgeois after the Cajun left fielder failed to get a bunt down.  Hayden Cantrelle was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Handsome Monica tied the game with an RBI groundout.  Orynn Veillon walked to load the bases and Hunter Kasuls hit a line drive off reliever Brandon Ivey (1-0) to send the game to extra innings.

The game featured the return to action of left-hander Gunner Leger, who didn't disappoint in his first outing since May, 2017.  Leger threw 77 pitches through five innings, giving up just two hits.  He walked two and struck out three.

The teams will play game two of their series tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.  The game can be heard on 96.5 KPEL-FM beginning at 1:30
