Hornets Trounce Kings Behind Anthony Davis’ Outstanding Play

Perhaps the struggling Sacramento Kings (19-38) were just what the doctor ordered for the New Orleans Hornets (20-37), who went into Sunday night's game looking to snap a three game losing streak. New Orleans was communicating on defense, and clicking on defense. That recipe propelled the Hornets to a 110-95 victory, snapping the losing skid.

Anthony Davis (pictured) reminded spectators why he was the consensus top overall pick in last summer's NBA draft. The Hornets rookie scored a game-high 20 points, pulled down 8 boards, and threw down a few monstrous dunks in only 28 minutes of action.

"I had to be aggressive. I had to stop settling for jump shots and start attacking the basket," explained Davis. "When we do that, we are a hard team to beat. We have guys that are good offensive rebounders, so we could kick back out to guys to shoot or go back up with it.’’

Hornets guard Eric Gordon looked for Davis from the get go, and it paid off.

`He’s very athletic and when he’s knocking those jump shots down, it’s opens up a lot of things," said Gordon of Davis. "He can put the ball on the ground and make plays"

Gordon finished with a season-high 8 assists and scored 17. Ryan Anderson scored 17 as well.

New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez chipped in his 22nd double-double of the season, scoring 12 while dishing out 13 assists.

"I thought we finished the game the right way, too," said Vasquez of his team's performance. "So that's got to be a carry over on Tuesday."

What's Tuesday? A home game versus the Brooklyn Nets. Tip-off is set for 7:00.
