Hornets fans, get ready to "bow to the brow." The New Orleans Hornets won the NBA draft lottery Wednesday night, giving them the rights to select Kentucky big man Anthony Davis (along with Davis' unibrow). Monty Williams was smiling ear to ear when the Hornets envelope was opened last.

In addition to the top overall pick, New Orleans also have the 10th overall pick in the 2012 draft. They acquired the pick in the Chris Paul trade to the L.A. Clippers. The pick originally belonged to the Timberwolves. New Hornets owner Tom Benson was on hand, along with his wife Gayle and Granddaughter Rita-Benson LeBlanc. All three embraced Williams after the lottery results.

“We’ve had a lot of good stuff happen to us the last few weeks,” Williams told the national television audience on ESPN. “The Benson family has taken over our team. We were in good hands with Commissioner Stern; our guys worked hard all year long and we just feel blessed to be in this position. It’s great for the city, great for the state of Louisiana. We’re really excited right now.

“I’m really blessed to be in this position. We know that every good and perfect gift comes from God. So I feel blessed about that.”

It's the second time the Hornets have beaten the odds to win the lottery. Back in 1991 when the franchise was located in Charlotte, they won the NBA draft lottery and selected UNLV power forward Larry Johnson. They will most likely select another power forward with the top overall pick in Anthony Davis.

While Williams and Hornets general manager Dell Demps will not divulge whether or not Davis will be their selection, it would come as an absolute shock if they went in any other direction. Davis is the consensus number one overall pick, and will most certainly be donning a Hornet jersey come October.

“It’s like Karma,” Davis said on ESPN shortly after the lottery results. “I won the national championship there, so that’s always exciting. I can’t wait to get down there if I get drafted No. 1. I’ll just do what I have to do to make my team win.”

Hornets fans are hoping he can win another championship in the Crescent City.
