It took more than 48 minutes to decide Thursday night's game between the New Orleans Hornets and the Houston Rockets, but in the end, the Hornets losing streak stretched to 6 after a heart breaking 90-88 loss.

Marco Belinelli's potential game-tying shot rimmed out as the Rockets held on to win their 5th straight. It's a bitter pill to swallow for the Hornets who held a 5 point lead in the extra period before Houston scored the final 7 points.

Jason Smith had one of the best games of his career in the loss. The power forward shot 50% from the field, finishing with a team-high 17 points. Smith, like the Hornets, came up just short in the clutch. He had a chance to knock down a game-winner at the end of regulation. Like Marco's shot at the end of overtime, Jason watched as the ball rimmed out.

Trevor Ariza (pictured left) played a game-high 46 minutes in the defeat. He appears to have recovered from the groin injury that sidelined him for 8 games.

New Orleans played spirited and feisty in the final quarter to force overtime, but couldn't hang on in the end. This loss will sting for Monty Williams' squad.

The Hornets will return home for a Saturday night matchup against the defending world champion Dallas Mavericks. Tip-off at the Hive is set for 7:00.
