Wearing their special Mardi Gras uniforms, it was fitting that a Holiday helped the New Orleans Pelicans hang on for a win Saturday night in the Crescent City, topping the Brooklyn Nets 105-103.

With the game tied at 100, Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday hit a heavily contested 3 pointer with just under 10 seconds to go.

Brooklyn answered with an in-bounds play that left Joe Johnson wide open for a 30 footer which he buried.

Holiday had one more heroic shot left in him, nailing a fadeaway jumper to give the Pelicans the victory.

“I was going to set the screen for Jrue,” said Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis to FOX sports reporter Jen Hale following the victory. “But he fumbled he ball, and Jrue being Jrue, he (still) made a big time shot.”

Johnson nearly answered again, throwing up a halfcourt prayer with a second left that bricked off the back of the rim, prompting Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry to put his hands over his face following an exciting finish.

Holiday led the Pelicans with 26 points and 7 assists. Ryan Anderson finished with 24.

“All the guys stepped up tonight. Jrue with two big shots at the end,” said Davis. “I’m just real glad we got this win.”

Davis returned from a 2 game absence due to a concussion. He struggled in the first half, missing all 9 of his shot attempts, but got it going in the second half.

“The first half it was tough on me. I had great looks but missed shots,” explained Davis. “At halftime my teammates said they’d keep getting me the ball and when I first came out they got me the ball to get going. When I made that first shot, I just tried staying in attack mode.”

He attacked well enough to finish the game with a double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds.

New Orleans continues to climb out of the cellar in the Western Conference with 7 victories in their last 9 games. They’re currently 3 games back of 8th place in the West.
