High School Football Coach Faces ‘Bullying’ Allegations After 91-0 Blowout

A Texas high school football coach is facing allegations of bullying after 91-0 blowout. An unnamed father of a Western Hills High School football player filed a formal complaint claiming Aledo High School football coach Tim Buchanan encouraged his players to bully their opponents by running up the score. The complaint goes on to describe Buchanan’s behavior as “unsportsmanlike conduct”.

We all witnessed bullying firsthand, it is not a pretty sight. I did not know what to say on the ride home to explain the behavior of the Aledo coaches for not easing up when the game was in hand. – Excerpt from the report according to

Aledo’s Coach Buchanan responded to the criticism. “It wasn’t good for anybody,” said Buchanan. “I’ve sat and gone over and over and over it on what we could have done differently. The score could have very easily been 150 to nothing.”

Aledo came into the matchup with Western Hills heavily favored after a 7-0 start to the season averaging over 66 points per game.

Buchanan says after acquiring a 56-0 halftime lead, he began playing 2nd and eventually 3rd string players, though he did not tell them to take it easy on their opponents.

Buchanan told

I’m not gonna tell a kid that comes out here and practices six to seven hours a week trying to get ready for football games ‘Hey, you can’t score a touchdown if you get in, you’re gonna have to take a knee,’ cause that may be the only touchdown that kid gets to score in his high school career.

The school district must review any formal complaint made on its website. A report will be made and handed to the parent who filed the complaint.
