Louisiana has got to be the only place where a “Witch Doctor” would be summoned to exorcise the demons in a football stadium. The Saints played their inaugural season in 1967, and failed to win a playoff game until the 2000 season. After winning the NFC West, they hosted the Rams at the Superdome. A traiteur performed an exorcism at midfield, complete with a snake, and incense before the game, while Dr. John softly played a piano. The Saints won.

Sports fans, and many athletes have their favorite rituals & superstitions. This season, my game day rituals have included beads, BLACK Saints jerseys, and food & beverage items like deviled “Eagle” eggs, “Falcon” gumbo, and “Dolphin” Bloody Marys. The entire Saints team ate Popeye’s Fried chicken before departing for Philadelphia to play the Eagles last weekend.

Our friend David Faulk, with Louisiana Hot Stuff sent us a voodoo chant for this week’s battle with the Seahawks.

..." May the ears of Seattle ring with Mardi Gras Mambo,

while the Saints stir up a nice Seahawk gumbo.

Voo Doo, Voo Doo - stir this brew,

then let a few Who Dats season that Seahawk Roux"...

We decided to set the scene as I read the chant, and hopefully, the Saints will have another road game after Seattle this Saturday.
