UPDATE: Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson reported authorities are searching for 26-year-old Ronald Wayne Babineaux as the suspect in the shooting.

Babineaux is described as a black male, 5-feet-8-inches tall, weighing 160 pound. He has short hair and is believed to be clean shaven.

Gibson said the suspect's last known address mat be within the Northgate Apartments or in the 1800 block of Cherry Street--both in Crowley.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Ronald Babineaux, you are urged to call Crowley Police at 783-1234 or Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish at 789-8477.

“Thus far our investigation has identified that this incident is an isolated incident," Gibson said. "There is currently no reason to believe that this matter was random."

The shooting occurred in the parking lot at Wal-Mart on Oddfellows Road this afternoon.

Police verified one victim was shot and transported to Acadia General Hospital. The patient, who is listed as being in critical condition, was later transported to a Lafayette hospital.


One person has been reported injured following a shooting at Wal-Mart in Crowley today.

A Crowley Police spokesman tells KPEL authorities believe they know who the shooter is, but are not releasing his identity.

Police believe an ongoing dispute between the suspect and the victim was the catalyst for the shooting.
