The recognition keeps rolling in for Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball player Junior Greg Davis.

First, Davis was named named one of eight to the weekly Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball. Now, you can add the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Player of the Week honors after “he made the most of the opportunity when his name was called,” says head coach Tony Robichaux. “This award is a credit to Greg’s work ethic,” says Coach Robichaux.

Davis may not be an everyday starter, but he certainly looked the part, and then some, when he recorded eight RBI, which included a grand slam, scored four runs, posted a slugging percentage of 1.250 and had a .778 on-base percentage on 6-for-8 batting against South Alabama over the weekend. One of those hits turned out to be the game-winning play in the ninth inning to give the Cajuns an 8-7 win over the Jaguars.

“Even though he isn’t in the lineup every day, he hasn’t stopped putting in the work needed to be successful,” points out Coach Robichaux. “It’s the attitude and approach of players like Greg that has made the difference this season.”

Davis now joins the list of five other Cajuns players to have won the LSWA award this season: Greg Milhorn, Seth Harrison, Jace Conrad, Chase Compton and Carson Baranik.

Louisiana (43-7, 23-4 Sun Belt) wraps up the regular season this weekend against conference rival UL Monroe (22-31, 11-16) beginning with Thursday’s game at 6pm, which can be heard on ESPN 1420. Friday’s game (6 pm) and Saturday’s game (3 pm) will both air on 96.5 KPEL-FM.
