Thursday was a special night for Jaylyn Gordon.  And the sportswriters around the state took notice.

Gordon has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association player of the week for her performance at UL Monroe.

The junior from Edgard came off the bench to spark the Cajuns, scoring 17 of her 21 points in the second quarter.  That enabled the Cajuns to erase an early five point deficit in their 71-52 win to open Sun Belt Conference play.

Gordon also pulled down a team high eight rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals.

She is the first player to be named by the LSWA in Garry Brodhead's tenure as head coach.

The Cajuns (5-1. 1-0 Sun Belt) are back in action Saturday against Dillard at 2pm at Earl K. Long Gym.
