Golden State Thunderstruck By OKC In Game Five

Golden State didn't lose two consecutive games all season long. The Thunder handed them two L's in Oklahoma City, now the Warriors are in trouble.

Everybody went into the playoffs thinking the Western Conference was the Warriors' to lose, and San Antonio was their obstacle. Not only did OKC dispatch of Tim Duncan and the Spurs, they're now handling up on the best team in the history of the regular season. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant are in attack mode, and it looks like the Warriors are on the ropes.

Westbrook was a machine in the 118-94 victory in Game Five, giving the Thunder a 3-1 lead in the series. His triple-double (36 pts, 11 reb, 11 ast) fueled the fire, and now they're one game away from shoving the Warriors off a cliff.

"I think our guys did a great job of coming out and defending home court," Westbrook told TNT's Craig Sager after the game. He added, "I know I can score the basketball, but my job is to get guys open."

Six different Thunder players reached double-figures in the scoring column, and OKC shot over 40 percent on 90 shot attempts. Not only were they getting more looks than the Warriors, they were converting them. In common terms, they wanted it more.

Golden State Head Coach Steve Kerr has a fistful of championship rings, and he knows what it takes to reach and win the NBA Finals. His description of Game Five was simple.

"They're getting way too many possessions compared to us," Kerr said.

Oklahoma State is more aggressive, and it looks like Golden State is reeling. Steph Curry only scored 19 points on 20 shot attempts, and he went 2-for-10 from beyond the three point line. Draymond Green, who was lucky to play after kicking Steven Adams in the undercarriage, went 1-for-7 from the floor and had as many turnovers as points (6). Klay Thompson was the only Warrior to put together a decent game with 26 points, but even he missed seven of his 11 three pointers.

Even if you thought OKC would be able to hang with the Warriors heading into this series, there's no way you predicted this happening. Heading into Game Six, it looks like OKC has Golden State by the throat.

Westbrook is playing out of his mind, so much so that Kevin Durant is almost the #2 guy on the team right now. KD poured in a 26 point/11 rebound double-double, but Westbrook's triple-double stole the show. Curry might be the MVP, but he's getting outplayed by OKC's stars.

Can we all just appreciate the NBA Playoffs right now? Countless overtime games, series going to seven games, surprise upsets...give me more. LeBron is fighting off the Raptors in the East, and the Thunder have the Warriors in a headlock. Well played, NBA. Let's just hope this drama carries over into the finals.
