Buster Posey #28 of the San Francisco Giants talks with teammate Ryan Vogelsong #32 against the Detroit Tigers during Game Three of the Major League Baseball World Series at Comerica Park on October 27, 2012 in Detroit, Michigan.

The San Francisco Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers, 2-0, on Saturday night at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, in game three of the 2012 Major League Baseball World Series, to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven game series.

San Francisco scored both runs in the second inning off Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez, with Gregor Blanco tripling home Hunter Pence with the game’s first run, before Blanco scored on a Brandon Crawford single.

That was all the Giants’ starter Ryan Vogelsong would need. The right-hander allowed no runs, along with five hits, over 5.2 innings of work, before giving way to Tim Lincecum, who threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, and Segio Romo, who pitched the ninth.

For the Giants, who have given up only three runs in the entire series, it was their second-consecutive shutout in the Fall Classic.

San Francisco has now won sixth-straight post-season games, which is a franchise record.

More importantly, they lead the series, 3-0, a lead which has never been overcome by the opposition in the World Series.

Furthermore, only one team in baseball history has overcome a 3-0 deficit in the postseason, with the Boston Red Sox doing it in the 2004 ALCS against the New York Yankees.

The Giants will be looking to capture their seventh World Series title, and second since moving to San Francisco, when they send Matt Cain to the mound against Detroit’s Matt Scherzer, in game four, on Sunday night at 7 pm (cdt).
