Former New Orleans Saints draft pick and practice squad player Tavon Rooks survived a scary situation at Kansas City Chiefs camp last month, surviving a heart attack he suffered on the field, according to chiefsdigest.com.

On August 17th, Rooks began experiencing chest pains during training camp practice, but continued to play through it. He then began having shortness in breath, and continues to fight through it a little longer before he succumbed to his urge to continue practice after his teammate Marcus Reed eventually called a trainer over. Reed's decision may have saved Rooks' life.

The 6'5, 300 pound, 25 year old offensive lineman was eventually taken to the hospital as his condition worsened. He had a stent put in his artery after he suffered a cute myocardial infarction due to a blood clot, resulting in a heart attack.

On September 1rst, Rooks was waived with a non-football illness. His NFL insurance has already expired and he needs more treatment. The medical bill is expected to run around  $30,000. The Chiefs organization has agreed to pay all of his hospital bills.

Rooks was a 6th round draft pick out of Kansas State by the Saints in 2014, spending the regular season on New Orleans practice squad.
