Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajun forward Shawn Long has been traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Houston Rockets for a 2nd round pick and cash considerations, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

Houston will hold a team option on Long for the next two years of his contract. He'll need to impress in camp to lock in a spot, but the Rockets have some open roster spots after making a blockbuster trade today for Chris Paul.

In exchange for Paul, Houston sent guards Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams, forwards Sam Dekker and Montrezl Harrell and 2018 first-round pick to the Los Angels Clippers.

To make the deal work, the Rockets needed to compile a number of smaller, non-guaranteed salaries to make the deal work under NBA rules.

Hopefully Houston isn't looking at Long as means to an end to make the numbers work, and are considering him for a role off the bench next season.

Long proved last season an ability to make contributions off the bench, playing well in and around the paint for Philly.
