Kenneth "KJ" Lawrence, who ranks fifth all time in assists for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, died Monday at a Little Rock hospital.  He was 36.

Lawrence played for former head coach Jessie Evans from 2001-03.  His best season was his senior season when he averaged 6.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.  The Cajuns reached either the semifinals or finals of the league tournament in all three seasons Lawrence played.

According to a news report, Lawrence has been arrested June 8th on a probation violation and a misdemeanor charge of failure to pay a fine.  The next morning, a deputy noticed Lawrence was "in distress" and he was taken to a hospital where he passed away eleven days later.

An autopsy will be performed by the State Medical Examiner to determine cause of death.
