Considering the San Francisco 49ers just released former Pro Bowl kicker David Akers, maybe the team should take a look at high school kicker Jonathan Semerene. The Florida prep school kicker can nail a 70-yard field goal, in the wind.
According to Yahoo! Sports blog Pep Rally, Semerene nailed a series of field goals from 70, 67, 65, 55, 50, 40 and 30 yards. All in what appeared to be a pretty stiff wind.
Given the strength of his right leg, there is absolutely no reason to believe that he couldn’t deliver that kind of a blast in a game during his senior season. The Weston (Fl.) Cypress Bay placekicker clearly plans on competing in college, yet he hasn’t received any officials scholarship offers as of yet. We should all expect that to change in the days ahead, if the full range of his made field goals are taken into consideration.
If the video is believed, you can bet a number of national colleges will soon be calling.
