Florida Finishes off Vanderbilt, 3-1
Steven Rodriguez allowed no hits and just one walk over 4 1/3 innings of relief to lead Florida over Vanderbilt 3-1 in a game suspended last night after six innings because of weather.
Rodriguez allowed nothing to the Commodores when play resumed Tuesday morning. Florida got all the runs they needed Monday night on a three run homer by Preston Tucker.
All of the pitchers: Rodriguez, starter Karsten Whitson, Vandy starter Greyson Garvin and relievers Will Clinard and Corey Williams pitched well. The two teams, considered to be two of the better offensive teams in the College World Series, combined for just nine hits. Florida pitchers struck out twleve, while Vanderbilt pitchers struck out eleven.
The win moves the Gators (2-0) all the way to Friday, where the winner of tomorrow’s game between Vandy and North Carolina will have to beat the Gators twice to keep them out of the championship series.
The two regularly scheduled games for Tuesday feature California taking on Texas A&M in an elimination game at 1pm. Defending champion South Carolina and top-seeded Virginia play at 6.
