Can the Cajuns make it four in a row?

No team has ever won the same bowl game four years in a row, but the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns have that opportunity Saturday morning when they take on the Nevada Wolf Pack at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

It's not going to be an easy task.

Nevada has a stellar quarterback in Cody Fajardo, who is about to become only the second quarterback to rush for 3,000 yards and pass for 9.000 in a career.  (Colin Kaepernick is the other.  He, too, played at Nevada.)

If the Cajuns are going to hoist another R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Championship Trophy, here are five things that need to happen.

THREE, NOT SEVEN....SEVEN, NOT THREE--Look, Nevada is going to score points.  And, they're going to move the football.  The Cajuns must have defensive possessions where Nevada is lining up for a field goal.  Conversely, the Cajuns, if their running game is clicking, can shorten the number of possessions.  When the Cajuns have the chance, they have to get it in the end zone and let Hunter Stover worry about kicking off rather than making a kick (except maybe at the end.)

THE NEON LIGHTS HAVE TO BE BRIGHT---It's very simple.  Terrance Broadway needs to have his best game of the season.  Nevada will be working hard to keep track of Elijah McGuire and slow down Alonzo Harris.  If Broadway can be the guy he was before his injury last year, it's going to be a huge plus.  It doesn't matter if it's with his feet or his arm, or both.  Number eight has to have a big day.

EITHER KICK IT OR RAISE 'EM UP---When the Cajuns have the ball, they want every possession to end with either a kick or a touchdown.  If you have to punt, fine.  You have a weapon there.  If you're kicking a field goal, that means points.  If you score a touchdown that's great.  But every possession has to end with one of those.  That means you're not turning the football over.  It's a different way of saying the Cajuns have to win the turnover battle.

GET A PASS RUSH---Fajardo will have many plays where he runs by design.  When he's passing, the Cajuns need to make him uncomfortable enough to where even if they aren't getting sacks, they're making him throw it off balance.  He doesn't make a ton of mistakes.  It's up to Juice and Ringo to see to it that he does in this game.

GIVE SMOKE A CHANCE---While you want to score touchdowns, there is a time you want a field goal.  And, that's late in a tight game.  The Cajuns probably aren't going to blow Nevada out.  That means they need to keep it close and give Hunter Stover an opportunity to win the game.  Field goals have won a game (2011), put a game away (2012) and lost a game (2013.)  Stover has only missed twice this season.  It's perfectly okay to put him in position to be a hero at the end.
