The last two weeks, frankly, have been duds as far as intriguing games are concerned, and this week isn't a whole lot better.  But there are some intersectional battles and a couple of conference matchups that have caught my eye.  Here we go.

(5) AUBURN (2-0) AT (20) KANSAS STATE  Thursday, 6:30, ESPN  Line:  Auburn (-9)---Two good programs.  Two good teams.  There's no questioning the strength of Auburn.  And, Kansas State is going to be a contender in the Big 12.  What catches my eye?  Well, this is Auburn's first road game of the season.  And, Bill Snyder Family Stadium is a pretty tough place to play.  I'm not calling for an upset, but the Tigers better come to play.

UTAH (2-0) AT MICHIGAN (2-1)--Saturday, 2:30, ABC  Line:  Michigan (-4.5)--Pac-12 vs. Big 10.  Personally, I like it when teams from the Power 5 get together for non-conference games (see above.)  While this one doesn't have the glamor of Auburn-KState, there are still bragging rights involved.  Michigan is only a narrow favorite.  Here's a hint:  That's not a testament to the strength of Utah.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN (1-2) AT SOUTH ALABAMA (1-1)--Saturday, 6:30, ESPN3--Line:  USA (-2.5). It's the first league game ever for the Eagles, who have come close against two ACC teams and frankly, should have won both.  They're on the road against a South Alabama team picked in the top three of the league.  South Alabama is still trying to find an offensive identity after losing All-SBC quarterback Ross Metheny.  They'd better find their defensive identity against a team that's very difficult to prepare for.

MISSISSIPPI STATE (3-0) AT (8) LSU (3-0)--Saturday, 6pm, ESPN  Line:  LSU (-9.5)--When you talk about the SEC West, many are looking at the two "surprise" teams, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, neither of which was expected to be a contender in the toughest division of college football.  No one is talking about Mississippi State.  Granted, their schedule hasn't been much (Southern Miss, UAB, South Alabama).  But State's defense has been stingy and they've got one of the league's better quarterbacks (Dax Prescott) that is a capable runner and passer.  Who knows...maybe LSU wins by 20 or more.  But I'm expecting this to be more of a game than many think.

(22) CLEMSON (1-1) AT (1) FLORIDA STATE (2-0)  Saturday, 7:15, ABC  Line:  FSU (-16.5) has suspended quarterback Jameis Winston for the first half in this game, which makes it even more compelling.  Clemson didn't put its best foot forward against Georgia opening weekend.  They'll need to play really really well to have a chance here...but FSU not having Winston for 30 minutes is somewhat of an equalizer.
